Turning passion into fashion at Cobb+Co Museum
06 February 2015
Cobb+Co Museum Shop’s upcoming Feature Artisan is a self-confessed button addict who has turned her obsession into a successful family run business.
Kylie van der Beek creates quirky jewellery and home wares from a variety of materials including fabric, resin and upcycled vintage buttons.
“My style is all about fun, bright and interesting colour combinations. Experimenting with shape, patterns, texture and colour in unusual ways. I love turning that tiny button someone has had stashed in cupboard for a million years into something that is out there for all to enjoy”, Kylie said.
“I love how a piece of jewellery can help people express their individuality. Many people comment on how they feel more confident and receive lots of complements when they wear their button jewellery."
Today, Addicted to Buttons is a successful family run business. Kylie works with her ‘Button Boys’ to shape these basic, unpretentious items into spectacular pieces of jewellery and home wares including clocks, keyrings and decorations.
Addicted to Buttons will be on display in the Museum Shop at Cobb+Co Museum from Saturday 7 February to Wednesday 1 April and Kylie will demonstrate her skill onsite at Cobb+Co Museum on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 29 March from 11am to 2pm.
