Carriages

Government officials and wealthy people used fancy carriages like landaus and Victorias. These people could afford to pay for drivers and grooms.

Some wealthy people liked to drive carriages themselves.  They used phaetons and wagonettes to take their families to church or picnics in the country.

Wagonettes were also used as passenger cabs, like taxis today.

Carriages featured in the National Carriage Collection are a family wagonette, four-in-hand, lady's phaeton, landau, pony phaeton, street wagonette, and a Victoria.
